Brief Description: Poetry and Musical Performance of the Works of Rumi by Christopher Theofanidis performed by the UNCG University Symphony Orchestra. The Here and Now was commissioned in 2005 by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. Theofanidis is a contemporary and award winning American composer. He took fragments of Rumi’s texts as he was writing the piece to create a cohesive journey for the listener (and performer). You can read more about it and listen to some samples on his website. He will be at the performance. The piece is 35 minutes and there are three other pieces on the concert as well with different texts, not by Rumi.
