Brief description: In a recent course, Professor Sahar Amer (UNC-CH) challenged her students to wear the veil for one day on campus, and to reflect on their experiences. With the help of human rights artist Todd Drake, each student created dual photographs, one in hijab and one self-portrait, and wrote brief reflections on their projects. “In This Skin” is an exhibit featuring these image and word expressions of the veiling experience.
Professor Amer and four of her students will discuss veiling and the creation of the exhibit. They invite you to come and explore their work to reflect on the multiple meanings of veiling and the complexity of all human beings. We are all a lot more than what we wear.
