Dr. Sylviane Diouf is an award-winning historian and the author of Servants of Allah: African Muslims Enslaved in the Americas, among other books on Africa and the African Diaspora. She will be discussing the West African Muslim origins of the Blues in the U.S. South. Dr. Diouf is Visiting Professor at Brown University’s Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice and a member of the Scientific Committee of the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience Maison des Esclaves project on Gorée Island, Senegal.
